The path leading up to design hasn't been an unbroken beeline. My bachelors studies in languages and humanities lead to me to extend my academic career in natural sciences, after which I worked as a writer for two printed newspapers in Finland. Rather than merely observing and documenting human life, I missed the act of creating and changing for the better. I then packed my bags and moved to the north of Sweden.
The user-centred approach taught in Umeå Institute of Design (UID) fit well with my lifelong curiosity towards human behaviour. Growing up between two cultures and travels across continents lead me to develop a habit of speculating how the environment shapes the individual. Today, this perspective (coupled with methods learnt at UID) enables me to form a thorough understanding of the context and people I am designing for.
As a designer I strive to apply my knowledge of the biophysical world and human behaviour with the thinking shaped by my education as a humanist and an interaction designer to create an impact that aligns with the needs of people and the surrounding environment.
